EV Penny Drops for Fix Auto Penzance!

Fix Auto Penzance, ever the network’s pioneer when it comes to all things environmentally friendly, has installed a bank of electric car chargers… and has opened them up for public use!  

Directors Stuart and Joel Cameron, who were among the first vehicle repairers in the country to gain PAS 2060 Carbon Neutral status, have installed two 40 KW ‘fast charge’ DC units along with a 20 KW AC fast charger and have turned to an operator that, via an app, enables EV drivers to make use of the system and charge their vehicles without any cost to the business.  

And while the pair have primarily installed them for customer use, the duo who have won numerous awards for their pioneering green initiatives over the last five years including the 2023 NBRA Gold Award for their environmental efforts, are making them available for all to use on a first come, first served basis. 

“EVs are the future for motoring,” said Joel, “like many bodyshops, we’re seeing more and more come through the workshop and of course, on the roads driven by locals and tourists. A lot of those who come to us often need charging so we decided to looking into providing our facilities but we were concerned that they’ll cost the business money to run. When we discovered there are charging units available that pushes that payment onto the user it became obvious that not only did we need to install them, but we could make them available to the public too,  especially as there’s only a handful in the town and only one of those is a fast charger.” 

He added: “We’re hoping there are EV owners out there who’ll not only use the chargers but, when they realise just what we do, they’ll step inside the reception and enquire about our services.” 

According to Zapmap, the generic map pin-pointing EV chargers in Penzance, there’s only a single fast charging unit in Penzance located at a town centre car park along with several pairs of slow chargers within a five mile radius of the popular tourist destination including caravan parks. The only other single fast charger in the region can be found at the Lands End visitor centre.
