PEDALLING FORWARD… THE WORLD OF ADVENTURE AWAITS FOR FIX AUTO BASINGSTOKE HEIR

When Fix Auto UK Basingstoke owner Dale Morris opened the network’s solely dedicated van, LCV and camper/motorhome repair centre earlier this year, little did he realise the new site would act as the start line for his son’s truly epic adventure.

For 24-year-old Henry, from today he is embarking on a solo round-the-world bike ride – a 14,000+ mile challenge that will take him through 21 countries in Europe, South East Asia, Australia and North America that will take more than a year to complete.

Henry, who by Dale’s own admission has long lived a life of adventure, set off from the all-new repair centre and then headed for Dover where he intended to catch a ferry across the channel and meander down through France and head for the Mediterranean and then onto northern Italy. From there, his route will take him to Croatia, Greece, Turkey and Istanbul where he intends to avoid any potential hazards in the Middle East and fly to Vietnam where the Asian section of the trip will begin. Henry will cycle to Singapore before sailing to Perth, Australia, where he will pedal to Sydney and then cross to New Zealand and ride the length of the country. From there he’ll fly to Los Angeles and then embark on the final leg which is to ‘simply’ bike across America before flying back to the UK.

Said Dale: “Travelling and adventure really is in Henry’s blood. He’s challenged himself before with various trips to numerous far-flung countries but everything he’s achieved before pales into significance to what he’s planning to do over the next year or so.

Having studied Tourism Management at university, Henry’s ambition is to run his own adventure holiday company. He told his mum and me he wanted something incredible for his CV. Well, I really don’t think there can be anything that can top a solo circumnavigation of the world by bike! He’s planned this and funded it himself, while as parents we’re rightly worried but we couldn’t be prouder.”

As part of his preparations the former Sherfield school student has been posting a series of online vlogs using the usual social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook and TikTok where he has been putting his equipment to the test.

Prior to setting off, Henry said: “It has been more than a year in the planning and I really cannot wait to get going now. For me, this is a dream come true. It’s going to really test my resilience and perseverance, if everything goes according to plan, I’ll be one of only a very small number of people to have cycled around the world.”
